You may already know that Washington Mills has a very long and interesting history. William Madison Wood was the manager of Washington Mills in 1886. He was appointed by the mill owner, Frederick Ayer and eventually went on to be Washington Mills’ first outside salesman and finally General Manager. William Wood would go on to marry Frederick Ayer’s daughter , Ellen, and raise four children in neighboring Andover.
